Wolfgang Lüttgens' artistic works are characterised by their impressive versatility and precise visual language, which unfold an inspiring dialogue in the exhibition spaces of the Michael Horbach Foundation. Known for his innovative use of conventional elements such as display cases and plinths, Lüttgens experiments with the expectations and viewing habits of the viewer. He combines techniques from drawing, photography, sculpture and installation. His works subtly question the definition of reality and challenge the boundaries between interior and exterior views. The Update Cologne jury recognised his practice for its contemporary relevance and the challenge posed by the flood of media images. The exhibition offers a valuable opportunity to explore the relationship between spatial perception and artistic expression and challenges visitors to engage with the work in a focussed way. The encounter with the unique works of art invites visitors to reflect on social and aesthetic conventions, with Lüttgens' creations offering a discursive platform for engaging with modern viewing habits.
For the first time, an accompanying didactic project will take place in cooperation with students of the so-called Museum Studies at the Institute of Art History at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn to complement the exhibition programme. The results of the dialogue at the interface between art and science will be presented parallel to the exhibition.

Since its foundation in 2017 by the Cologne Department of Culture, the "Update Cologne" format has offered a unique platform for Cologne artists aged 50 and over who, despite their long-standing presence in the city, have often found insufficient space for the large-scale presentation of their works.
