7000 Years of Jewellery Art at the MAKK

With the exhibition "The Fascination of Jewellery", the Museum of Applied Arts (MAKK) is presenting its extensive and varied jewellery collection in its entirety for the first time. With 370 selected exhibits, the exhibition reflects seven millennia of jewellery art - a journey through time from ancient oriental gems from the 5th millennium BC to modern jewellery creations. This extensive collection not only shows aesthetic masterpieces, but also cultural-historical evidence that illustrates the development and changeability of jewellery over the centuries.

A particular highlight of the exhibition is Elisabeth Treskow's collection. The renowned goldsmith not only donated her important collection of antique gems to the MAKK, but also enriched the collection with her own artistic works, which are characterised by the ancient technique of granulation. Important goldsmiths and jewellery artists of the 19th and 20th centuries such as René Lalique and Karl Gustav Hansen are also represented. Their works reflect the technical and artistic diversity of different eras. The historical background of jewellery art is not neglected, but placed in a comprehensive cultural context that offers visitors a deeper insight into the social and aesthetic developments of mankind.
