Since 2004, Cologne-based artist Anja Schlamann has photographed shop counters in analogue format with a large-format camera on five continents: in Syria, Cuba, Spain, Morocco, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Peru and Bolivia.
The result is a comprehensive ethnographic-sociological documentation. For the first time, 90 works from this collection will be on display in an exhibition. The diversity of the global shop counters encourages reflection on similarities and differences. In Anja Schlamann's stringent collection, the counters also present themselves as visually seductive offerings for the eye.
