The successful combination of sacred art collection and the atmosphere of the Romanesque church St. Cäcilien makes the Schnütgen Museum a true treasure chamber of the Rhineland. The special setting makes this visit an unforgettable encounter with religiously influenced works of art from almost all epochs of Western cultural history. We show you sculptures, stained glass, ivory and liturgical vestments. The spectrum of the permanent exhibition ranges from the Carolingian book cover to the Heribertskamm comb used in anointings, the large Romanesque crucifix from St. George to the small Baroque sculpture of Deödlein or other drastic memento mori objects.
