From the mediaeval village on the Düssel, Düsseldorf has developed into the state capital and thus offers the entire field of tension between attractive, narrow old town alleys and modern big city architecture. In front of the Town Hall, the core of which is an aesthetic renaissance building with baroque extensions, you will be welcomed by the equestrian statue of Düsseldorf's famous Elector Johann Wilhelm von der Pfalz, better known as Jan Wellem. Passing by the Schloss tower you carry on through the twisting old town alleys. Not far away is the State Academy of Art at which since time immemorial, well-known artists were professors: Paul Klee, Wilhelm von Schadow, Joseph Beuys or Markus Lüpertz. With a "lecker Dröpche", a glass of Altbier, you can relax in a cozy brewery tavern and observe life in Düsseldorf. Afterwards, the renowned "Kö", the Königsallee is the ideal place for a stroll.
