Theatre 509 on the top floor of Bürgerhaus Stollwerck has been an important address in Cologne's cabaret scene since it opened in 1991. Here, on the fifth floor and above the rooftops of the city, guests can enjoy a diverse programme of cabaret and comedy that constantly sets new accents.
The stage has established itself as a springboard for young talents who later make the leap into larger artistic circles. Artists such as Kaya Yanar and Michael Mittermeier found their first artistic home here. The atmosphere of the theatre is characterised by its manageable size and the close proximity between the audience and artists, which allows for an intimate yet dense performance experience.
In addition to the stage programme, the theatre café offers an enjoyable experience before and after the performances, where drinks such as wine, beer or Aperol Spritz can be taken directly into the theatre hall. Even though ticket payment is not yet possible, the price-performance ratio remains attractive for visitors. This reflects a sense of social responsibility by making cultural experiences accessible to many.
In the former chocolate factory, Theatre 509 adds another multi-faceted chapter to Cologne's cultural diversity, enabling individual discoveries in the field of tension between tradition and innovation.
